Off-Field
Nafis's dad provided some unnecessary excitement for the club. He is well and recuperating and we look for ward for a speedy recovery.
Ground Maintenance
After a bit of tractor challenge, the fields were mowed and maintained. Many thanks to Kiran Murahari- second time this season, especially Wrentham-III (3.5 hours). Parak Cut Wrentham-I )1.5 hours). The time spent that allows all of us to enjoy the fruit of one persons labor.
The shed area is looking shoddy- we will be looking at improving that in the coming days with some hands on projects.
Cricketing front
On the cricketing front we have some positives to take away, though as a club we are struggling to put points on the table The net sessions are in full flow and it is good to see folks using the nets to sharpen their skills and we all know that is needed. A robust showing from all teams in the nets is helpful.
Scorecards: BGSC: Played 19, Won: 2, Loss 17
Boston Gymkhana S.C F1 vs. UMass Dartmouth CC
Boston Gymkhana S.C. F2 vs. Huskies Cricket Club
BGSC-F2 stoic display second match in a row. Fathers/sons: Himanshu and Adi Patel, Srini and Rohan Poodari- continue the strong legacy of F teams of Gymkhana. Win or loss: Spirits, food and beverages flow freely through the game and the fines meeting. Bharat's fine showing with the bat means a bit more support and the team will be putting up a stiffer fight as it comes along.
BGSC-F1 nicked another win. Bowling resources are meagre, but fortunately the opposition failed to really put up a stiff fight and experience trumped youth for a second match on the trot. Jogi and Harmeet kept the game tight as other bowlers work their way into form. Some brilliant catching by Jogi Saini, Raja Tummla and Kiran Murahari helped a lot. Raja Tummla's assured and aggressive batting, followed by Dilip second gritty knock or the season combined with Parak positive and chanceless batting meant Sam and Kiran did not get a look see with the bat.
BGSC-A still trying to find its way as they flounder about a bit. A 52 run (13 overs) 3rd wicket partnership between could not be capitalized upon as the team saw a dramatic collapse. A courageous last wicket partnership between Kawal Sidhu and Sirinivas showed that a bit more application by batsmen earlier in the inning might have helped the team post a fighting total. Anis provided some early breakthroughs for the second match in a row but again a bowling partnership could not blossom. Rajiv did bowl really well with miserly figures of 8 overs for 14 runs.
BGSC-B team played really well and provided the most excitement for the club. Ali Ali early aggression and then an inning powered by a century stand between Riaz and Prabhu had the match tilted towards BGSC with the score at 140 for 2 in 28 overs. The last 12 overs yielded ~80 runs, not terrible but perhaps 20-30 runs shy of a formidable score. Guyana's early aggression, cricketing smarts and sensible batting by Tarzan and Nortot for the 6th wicket meant that BGSC-B's grip was slowly and surely loosened and the match slipped away. A disappointing loss, but more attention to the basics will mean that this team will be a team for watch for all Gymkhnians.
