BGSC-F1 Vs MVCC Vikings, June 9th, 2018

Team Gymkhana,

(as always disregard and pardon any typos and such, corrections and updates will be made
when possible)

Finishing touches from last weekend:
  • Match Report: Nafis Ahmad
  • Fines meeting update: Midhun Kumar
  • Pictures Update: BGSC-F1 Vs NECC-Sharks: All
  • Fines Meeting focus was: sign up for:
  • BGSC-T
  • Friendly Matches
  • Kids Camp
  • Other BGSC activities
    • Baljit called regarding kids camp, none of the other have really made a concerted effort.  This will be reflected in team selection etc, moving forward. We really need a TEAM effort on all BGSC activities.
  • Attending nets is not an option.  We all must try to get a little better.  We
are after all playing a team sport.

I really liked what Nafis did this weekend.  Another model XIITH man for F1, Following the
heels of Marcus from earlier in the season. First on the field, helped out with fielding
drills and did everything that needed to be done and also fielded 20 overs.
Thank you Nafis.

Masood is an exemplary host, like the other legions of incredible hosts for BGSC-F- Satya,
Baljit, Nitish, Parak, Sundar (F2)- Guest host...and so on.  Food was great, beverages
even greater, setting awesome, company incredible. Those seven hours captured the
essence of “F”. Thank you Masood.

Postulate of any F1 win 2018:

Score 280 runs, concede less than 20 wides/noballs.
Caveats: weather, ground condition. +/-60 runs. So basically we are looking at
220-340 for a 95% chance of win.

Batting: We scored 161.  We exerted no batting pressure on a team that was still
searching for a win. Yup they finally romped to an easy win.  Midhun and Deepak
gave us an excellent start, none of the batsmen following really set us on a path
to a winning score.
Bowling: We conceded ample extras (15) in the first 14 overs.  For a brief moment
with Deepak-Raja bowling in tandem, we exerted some pressure...no other bowling
partnership(s) flourished. Deepak was excellent once again, Raja Kolli battled hard
and showed some signs of his innate brilliance, Parak once again punched above his
weight in bowling and really helped the team, Masood lacked confidence: he can and
will bowl better, Dilip bowled too many extras: he will get better as well, Midhun had
another off day.  To defend totals below our “Par Range: 220-340”, we will need to
improve a bit on our bowling effort.

Fielding:  We fielded okay, our energy ebbs more than it flows.  We have flaws in basics,
we can improve. Our effort was, like I said okay.  Satya and Anmol were above their
average. We are a weak fielding side: we are older than all of our opponents, slower
also and many of us lack in basics,  so we run slower, we throw slower, we don't take a
start...but then none of this was a surprise as we created this roster. What we MUST
change is in getting better than where we are as individuals as of now.  Deepak must
TRY to get better than where he is NOW, so must Bikram, Imran, Masood, Dilip, Parak
and so on...To defend totals below our “Par Range: 220-340”, we will need to improve
a bit on our fielding effort.

We will devote 20 minutes of the next fines meeting on this issue: Fielding.
The bottom line is, we could have defended 160 odd with with a little better bowling and
a tad better fielding.

We conceded 24.45 wides/no balls during our last outing.  Our opponents this coming
Saturday, MVCC Vikings concedes about 15.  Our bowlers (extrapolated to 40 overs)
averaged thus in the last match:

Parak- 11 extras/40 overs
Masood- 48/40
Dilip- 93/40 (4.33 RPO- overall though)
Midhun- 80/40
Raja Kolli- 0/40
Deepak- 10/40
Bikram- 0/40 (only 1.2 overs bowled)

With Deepak Chadha out for the upcoming encounter, Raja K. and Parak would be only
bowler that really qualifies to bowl a spell.  One has to be able to pitch the ball in the
right areas to qualify as a bowler. That basically requires muscle memory, bowling at
least 48 odd balls/week at a particular line & length.  We will be looking at the following
bowlers as our primary bowlers this weekend.

Parak-Bikram-Gundeep-Masood-Dilip- Raja K- Harmeet.  Like Satya mentioned during the
fines meeting, staying consistent with the “2 wides and you are out” regimen instills discipline.
During the last match we veered away from that LAW. We will adhere closely to it this
weekend.

Backup bowlers will be Pawandeep (who bowled well in Newport), Raja Tummla and Nafis
Ahmad.
