Game-2 - At home, BGSA took on Division A debutantes NECC Tigers riding high in confidence from their two straight winsTeam made sure the ground was set up. and the tents were in order for the day (strong winds weren’t helpful). 11:00am - Team arrived at the ground for pre-game preparations.
Dhruv led the team through some light warm up followed by some catching practice from Abhirup.
Team was intentionally dropping catches during practice to deceive the opposition
Playing XI was announced in compliance to the new game rules. Pratik voluntarily asked to be the XIIth man for the game showing true leadership and exemplifying the club culture / game day rules in action.
11:50am - BGSC-A lost the toss and was put in to bat
Abhi and PJ started the innings in a steady manner. Abhi was timing the ball really well before he got out to a blinder of a catch at extra cover. Purak and PJ played out safely the first few overs but made sure the scoreboard was moving. PJ got out to a well guided short ball and the shot was against the wind which led to his dismissal.
27/2 in 8th over, Parminder joined Purak in the middle. Parminder had a nice start and looked confident from the first ball. Purak played some beautiful shots and helped the new batsmen ease in.
Purak and Parminder looked good but confusion in the middle led to the run out of Parminder. Sandeep and Purak tried to stabilize the innings after some pressure build up and good bowling from NECC tigers, Sandeep got out to a blatant wrong decision which led to more pressure build up on the team. Srikant M came on next and looked solid from the start, smashing a beautiful inside out six over covers.
Really nice bowling from NECC bowlers some good shot balls. Purak got to his fifty with a nice four straight down the ground. Just when BGSC-A looked on track to score 200+ , NECC bowlers got rid of Srikant M and Purak in successive overs leaving the batting side struggling at 132/6. BGSC-A lower order were not able to add much to the scoreboard and the gymkhana lions were all out for 145 with 6 overs still remaining. NECC tigers finished their bowling on a high.
BGSC-A required a great start and who best to provide it, none other than Sandeep Reddy. He got three quick wickets and the NECC tigers were on the ropes with 7/3 in the 4th over. Sandeep was supported equally well by Dhruv and Anis, each pitched in with their share of wickets. A few overs later With the NECC tigers a little settled in, on came the debutant Mithesh Jain, who took the mickey out of the NECC batsmen. The tigers found it really difficult to get going against the rookie wrist spinner. NECC batsmen who were struggling to survive finally found some rhythm when the 7th wicket partnership between Prasanna and Rakesh proofed fruitful. The duo added 57 runs giving NECC a chance to get back in the game. Mitesh starting his second spell was unplayable and got Prasanna M (who was really struggling to connect) caught behind breaking the dangerous looking partnership. BGSC bowlers proved out to be too good for the NECC tailenders to make any dent on the remaining run chase. Anis and Sandeep both finished the NECC innings by taking wickets in their come back spell.
Great team spirit, some exceptional bowling and fielding along with couple of great catches helped the lions cross the finish line.
This was a special win for BGSC - A defending a low total and the bowers leading the way! 1st of the many to follow.
Team had great support from the Gymkhana heroes including - Bikram, Parak, Raja K, Deepak, Dilip, Santosh, Ashish.
It was a good day for gymkhana as the team B also won their game in Wrentham III
All 4 teams and families enjoyed some excellent homemade food made by Prathmesh’s mom (delicious basen dish), Tina Randhawa (Chicken curry & Rice) and other dishes brought by team B. BGSC's hospitality was most shown through the wonderful people who cooked the food and also the ones who served (Anis, PJ, Sandeep).
